Goals for the Northwest Indiana Local Food System
- create a Local Food Day
- create a Local Food Guide
- create a Local Food Guild that facilitates the design, ownership, and education of the regenerative food system
Progress to date of the Local Food Guild
- create the framework model for the Local Food Guild as a Transition Initiative for Lake, Porter, and La Porte county
- we have started to build relationships with local producers, buyers, markets, processors, and the public
- I have contacted Gaia University and they are enthusiastic to support this project as part of my Master's Degree Project
Actions in progress and next steps
- actively building a contacts database of producers, buyers, and markets for Lake, Porter, and La Porte counties
- seeking a volunteer to assist with making relationships with food buyers
- mainly this entails talking with food buyers about their solutions to the lack of a food system
- obtaining their weekly food purchasing inventory
- finding ways to establish trust with the food buyer and the food guild
- seeking volunteers to solve local food processing and distribution system issues
- seeking a volunteer to assist with making relationships with food producers
- mainly this entails talking with food producers about their solutions to the lack of a food system
- obtaining their food growing capacity
- finding ways to establish trust with the food grower and the food guild
